The Amherst Brewing Company is a full-service brewpub located in Amherst, Massachusetts. Established in 1997 by a small group of investors, the ABC originally occupied the lower level of the former First National Bank building off North Pleasant Street. Over time, ABC went through three expansions. The first took place in 2002 with the creation of a game room and lounge on the second floor called "The Upstairs at ABC". In 2004, the upstairs was expanded by adding a larger bar, two more pool tables, and other facilities. In 2008, we expanded the downstairs dining room, creating a new entrance and adding much-needed space to the kitchen and storage facilities. A retail nook was created to display ABC merchandise and growlers for sale from the brewery.
Our most recent and biggest move was to 10 University Drive, which was formerly occupied by Gold’s Gym, and before that, a supermarket. The space offers a roomy interior--which is ideal for family dining, watching sports, and hosting events--high ceilings, more space to brew, and a substantial outdoor patio for warm weather dining. There is ample, free parking in the front lot--a definite perk for anyone who struggled to find parking in downtown Amherst in the past! The highlight of the new venue is a 100-foot, copper top bar with a unique leaf pattern and front molding crafted from African Sapele wood. We know this eye-catching addition will quickly become a favorite among regulars and new customers alike. The University Drive location gives us the chance to serve our loyal customers even better, offering you more beer, more seating, free parking, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere you have always appreciated--all in a brand new space.
For a listing of our current regulars, seasonal brews, and cask offerings on tap, check the side bar to the right. Brewery tours can be made by appointment. Over the course of the year, ABC hosts beer dinners and monthly tastings. See the events section for upcoming dates, or join our fan page on Facebook to get daily updates on events, upcoming brews, and promotions.
Our brand new copper-top bar seats 50 people and is fully stocked, including a selection of scotches and bourbons, select wines, and unusual guest draft beers. Approximately 30 additional seats are available on our seasonal patio--the best place in town to relax and enjoy an ABC draft or specialty brew while savoring the warm weather. For over 13 years we have hosted the Amherst Jazz Orchestra on the first and third Mondays of every month. To keep up with our wide variety of special events and music dates, check the schedule to the left.
Our menu ranges from traditional pub fare, including fish and chips, burgers, homemade soups, and entrees to the unusual, such as fried pickles, monster pretzels, and fried Oreo sundaes. We have plenty for vegetarians, too, and we are working on a small gluten-free menu for the near future. Many of our menu items are homemade, and we also have daily specials featuring creations from our kitchen. Feel free to call our main number and press #2 for today's selections. We support local butchers, bakeries, and farmers. Most of our meats are supplied by Arnold's Meats in Chicopee, and our breads are baked fresh daily at East Baking Company in Ludlow. The pumpkins and squash used in our fall seasonal Pumpkin Ale are grown on the Smiarowski Farm in Sunderland. Check out our entire menu by clicking on the "our menus" icon on the left of this page.
