Groove Shoes (Eclectic Jam Rock)

As part of our Saturday Night Music series, we will showcase another one of the Valley’s most talented upstarts: Groove Shoes returns for the first time in 2012. Groove Shoes wowed the crowd at their first ABC engagement back in November, and are back in full effect! Percussionist and band leader Sam French promises more of the same and better, as Groove Shoes has spent most of the winter in the “woodshed”! Prepare to get free and let Groove Shoes shake your boots! This FREE show begins at 10 p.m.

Amherst Jazz Orchestra

Founded and headed by bandleader Dave Sporny, this professional big band plays a wide array of music, from rare and historical big band works to some of the newest original contemporary jazz. AJO performs on the first and third Monday of each month. Going into their 14th season at ABC, the Amherst Jazz Orchestra has quite a following! Therefore, we encourage everyone to come early to get a good seat, as we do not accept reservations for this event. Starts at 8:30 PM and goes until 11:00 PM.

Chocolate and Beer Tasting

Saturday, Feb 11

On Saturday, February 11th, we will host a tasting of mouth-watering beers paired with decadent chocolate. Our selection of brews will be paired with chocolate from Heavenly Chocolate in Thornes Marketplace in Northampton. This tasting should certainly be a sell-out, so call and reserve a space in advance! Tickets are $25 for Mug Club members and $30 for the general public.  The tasting will run from 3-6 p.m. 

 

 

 

 

The Jon Fisher Quartet

The Jon Fisher Quartet, featuring Pete Aleksi, Dave Pichi, and Eugene Uman will be in the house performing organ-Ized jazz and funk flavors, from classics to originals. Don your shiny suits--this will be a party! Show starts at 10 p.m.

Otis Grove (Power Organ Slam-fest)

Saturday, Feb 18

The Saturday Night Music Series is in full effect, so join us on Feb. 18th for Otis Grove! This event will be a serious excursion into hard funk as Beantown comes to A-Town. Riding this funky wave of aggression will be Rope-a-Dope Records own Otis Grove. OG has been killing the game for the last 6 years, breathing epic new life into the time-honored tradition of the organ trio. Former member of local band NBFB Sammy Gilman holds down keyboard duties (an eclectic mix of organ, clavinet, and synthesizer) and leads these guys through a red-hot mix of organ standards, originals, and interesting covers from the classic rock catalogue. 10 p.m. sharp. Show is FREE.

Jeff Holmes Big Band

Monday, Feb 27

This award-winning, 20-piece big band and 2009 winner of the Villanova Collegiate Jazz Festival will perform a broad range of big band literature, including student works. The band is directed by Professor Jeff Holmes, Director of Jazz & African-American Music Studies at UMASS. Begins at 8:30 p.m.

Jeff Holmes w/UMASS Jazz Ensemble

The UMASS Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Prof. Jeffrey W. Holmes, is an award-winning big band comprised of the top graduate and undergraduate students from UMASS. They perform a wide variety of student and faculty written jazz and popular works, in addition to important repertoire from the 30s to present day.
